Option to enable mixed caps entries for word clouds

It might be cool to show word cloud answers with small caps only, but especially in languages which rely on upper case for words it is very annoying to have them in small caps only.

Hi Martin,

I can see how having all the word cloud answers in small caps might feel limiting, especially in languages that rely heavily on uppercase for emphasis. I appreciate you pointing this out—it’s always valuable to hear how our designs affect different users.

Currently we convert all words into lowercase first before aggregating them to show on the word cloud, this ensures that multiple entries they believe convey the same message like “happy”, “Happy”, “HAPPY” are the same and shown as one big word to emphasize the high-volume, also to avoid having a word cloud full of similar small words - which might not be helpful as a cloud with fewer words but of various big & small sizes.

Can you give me a few examples where showing the words in their original form (UPPERCASE or lowercase or BoTh) would boost your experience?

Cheers,

Duke

I’m not talking about “uppercase for emphasis” but simply that for instance in German, most nouns are written with the first letter uppercase and it simply feels wrong, to see that in lowercase. Same applies for brands, technologies etc.

I suggest that you still merge all entries regardless of their letter case, maybe even merging answers with hyphens and spaces in it. The answer to be shown is either the first or maybe better the letter case used by most of the answers.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I will pass your suggestion along to our development team for future consideration. Should this feature be implemented, I will share an announcement in this post.

Best regards,

Nathan
